Hobo stew
An easy, budget-friendly stew with basis turkey (or Thanksgiving leftovers), beans, veggies and plenty of season!
First of all, I hope anybody had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Lots of turkey, lots of stuffing, enough of veggie sides and peradventure a little pie to top it all off. And more than importantly, loads of love, laughter and family. Nosotros certainly did!
We started the mean solar day with a turkey trot 5K run, a tradition in contempo years and a great fashion to brand room for ALL the food to come. And we ate dinner earlier this year and had the kiddos with usa at the table. I dear that they are quondam enough to join in on the fun (without being full distractions)! M loved helping my mom get everything laid out and beautifully assault the table. She fabricated the place cards for each of us, as well. J loved seeing ALL that food in front of him. G said turkey was her favorite. We call up J liked the ham the all-time. But they tried everything and were so happy to be included in the festivities; warmed this mama's heart.
Second of all, I know, I know. The championship of this recipe. Hobo stew. Non exactly PC. But that's what they call this dish. That's what my people telephone call this dish. Information technology'southward adapted from i of my grandmother's local cookbooks. Information technology tin be campfire stew. Some people call it ragamuffin stew or ground beef stew (which I don't use). My family unit says hobo stew, then I'thou going to roll with it.
Information technology's interesting, though, how language changes over time. And what those changes say about us. The linguistics and gender grade I took in college was one of the nearly fascinating and illuminating courses of my college career. You don't realize how many preconceptions you have until someone breaks downwardly the very basic language you apply.
Anyway, hobo stew. It'southward all nigh throwing whatsoever you got into a unmarried pot and making a meal out of it. It's adaptable, forgiving and full of flavour. Information technology's unremarkably made with basis beef, but I of class subbed ground turkey – a little lighter and more healthful of a meat. And, of course, information technology beingness the day afterward Thanksgiving, you can admittedly use your leftover turkey instead of cooking up footing turkey. See, very adjustable.
But whatever you throw at information technology, at the base level, this is only a actually not bad hearty stew. It'south got all kinds of season profiles and together, they seriously sing. Everyone volition find something to beloved about this dish.
Enjoy!
